The following are varied types of insulation systems used here at Coil Tec.
Please note, any system can be altered to meet individual customer requirements.
VOLT DIP & BAKE
The loops consist of film or DDG wire with second turn sleeving at the knuckles. The loops are then dipped in IMI 7057 adhesive and put in the oven at a low temperature to dry. When the loops come out of the oven they are pressed in the height and width before they are spread. Using a .006 mica wrapper, with a minimum of four and a half wraps in the slot for 2300 volt. On the ends, we use two layers of half lapped mica. The mica used on standard dip & bake coils is IMI 77956 or US Samica 64217. Armour tape is .005 Hesgon glass tape, one half lap on the ends and one third lap through the slots. The leads are single sleeved with Bently Harris FA1 sleeving. The coil is then dipped in Westinghouse B535-5 varnish and baked until dry. The coil is then surge tested at 6000 volts turn to turn.
4160 VOLT DIP & BAKE
For the 4160 volt, materials used are the same. We use a minimum of six and a half wraps through the slot, and three one half laps on the ends. The leads are double sleeved.
2300 VOLT VPI
Loops are done the same as dip & bake coil. Insulating materials are IMI 79986 or US Samica 4373. We use felt lead seals and the leads can be taped or sleeved with Bently Harris acrylic overbraid. The armour tape is untreated glass tape or Dacron tape. The coil is tested and shipped raw.
4160 VOLT VPI
4160 volt coils are done the same but the amount of layers is increased to six and a half wraps and three layers on the ends. Note some customers prefer not to have wrapper on VPI coils. In this case, we build the slot section with mica tape.
CLASS H
All procedures are the same as a standard dip & bake coil. The only thing changed is the insulating materials. We use IMI 77879 mica tape and wrapper, and class H sleeving.
SEALED SYSTEM
All procedures and materials are the same as standard dip & bake coils except the armour tape. We use Fusa Flex, and we use a high temperature silicone lead seal where the leads exit the coil.
6600 VOLT COILS VPI
VPI mica US 4373 is wrapped continuously around the coil three times. Then, through the slot section, we put a wrapper of the same material two and a half wraps. After that is complete, we put one more final wrap of 4373 around the coil. Armour tape can be Dacron or Glass (.005).
For DIP & BAKE coils, the Mica is 64213 US Mica. Armour tape is .005 Glass tape and a corona shield is either painted on or taped on the slot section.
